The Pelé Pequeno Príncipe Research Institute is the scientific research unit of the Pequeno Príncipe Complex, which also includes the Pequeno Príncipe Hospital and the Pequeno Príncipe Colleges.
Founded in 2005, the institute brings together 15 researchers currently conducting 50 scientific studies aimed at improving the treatment and cure of complex diseases affecting children and adolescents. Its results place the institute at the forefront of scientific research in Brazil and demonstrate strong potential for broader application in pediatric healthcare. One study, for example, directly contributed to saving the lives of patients with a specific type of cancer, while another enabled paraplegic rats to walk again — a breakthrough that may lead to future benefits for humans.
The Institute is the only social organization in the world officially endorsed by Pelé. The legendary “King of Football” saw in the IPP the best way to support children and adolescents in Brazil, in the same spirit as the famous tribute he made upon scoring his historic 1,000th goal.
Pelé’s involvement led to the creation of a fundraising platform called Goals for Life, which helps support the sustainability of the Institute’s work.
In summary, supporting the Institute means contributing to a cause that can benefit children around the world. The research lines developed include the following:
Cell Therapy and Biotechnology in Regenerative Medicine
Neuropsychopharmacology and Qualitative Research
Methods for Early Diagnosis and Treatment of Cancer and Blood Disorders
Geomatics in Medicine (Geomediсine)
Telemedicine
Sensors, Medical Imaging, and Radiotherapy
